Texas Rangers investigate inmate death

November 12, 2008 - 3:31pm
LUFKIN - Texas Rangers are investigating the death of an Angelina County inmate.
Rangers say Thomas Kirksey was taken to a hospital Monday after being found unresponsive in his cell.
Kirksey's wife told the Lufkin Daily News she repeatedly called the jail Monday afternoon, and was told by jail staff her husband was "uncontrollable."
Kirksey said her husband was high on PCP at the time and could have been paranoid and having hallucinations. She also said a hospital nurse told her Mr. Kirksey was stunned with a Taser five or six times before going into cardiac arrest.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine his cause of death. According to the Associated Press, Angelina County Sheriff Kent Henson said Kirksey wasn't being stunned with a Taser when he died.
