Texas Shakespeare Fest founder to be honored at derrick lighting

The iconic oil derricks which tower over Kilgore’s “World’s Richest Acre” will soon be adorned with lights, marking the beginning of the winter holiday season.

Texas Shakespeare Festival Founder Raymond Caldwell has been selected to “flip the switch” and illuminate the derricks during the 27th annual “Christmas in the Patch” ceremony Nov. 21, presented by the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation.

According to Kilgore Main Street Manager Clara Chaffin, Caldwell’s selection is a way for the city to honor his works in the community, including his establishment of the Texas Shakespeare Festival in 1986.
