A Texas teen has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for burglarizing a dead student's home while his family was at his funeral.

Gilbert Rodriguez faced a maximum 20-year penalty when he was sentenced Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in August to burglary of a
habitation.

Tarrant County prosecutors say the 18-year-old targeted the Fort Worth home because he knew the family would be at the funeral. A high school baseball player, Eric Trevino, was killed in a car accident late last year.

Authorities say Trevino's trophies, some televisions and more than $800 raised for funeral expenses were stolen.

Rodriguez must serve at least six years in prison before he's eligible for parole.

A 16-year-old arrested in the burglary case was not charged and another suspect was not indicted.
