East Texas (KETK) — The Better Business Bureau is warning East Texans about a scam going around the area.
Business owners and shoppers should be looking out for credit card scams.
The scam began going around last week when consumers began receiving a post card offering them a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart or Target.
The post card will have a number to call so the consumer can claim the gift card. Once you call the number, the scammers will ask for a credit card number so they can charge you a $6.95 processing fee.
The scammers would then take that information and take the $6.95 out of the account along with additional charges.
So far a hand full of people have been affected by this scam, and there has been one victim.
The Better Business Bureau is urging East Texans that if they receive the post card to not call the number.
And if they do to be cautious and to never give out any personal banking information.
If anyone comes across this scam or has any questions you can contact the Better Business Bureau at 903-581-5704.
