The Code of the West

Ok.

I'm a romantic to a point. I love the old west. That was a make it or break it time for America.

Probably a reason why is I love anything cowboy. I take this magazine here--- American Cowboy.

Too much chic Santa Fe for my taste, but still focuses on some western issues.

I came across the article a while back. It was about a guy from Austin. He noticed America was getting away from some of its roots and the teachings we used to have.

We've also lost our real heroes.

Now, this guy is a stockbroker. He made it a point to watch a passel of western movies and read a ton of books about the west.

And he's come up with "the Code of the West."

Since he's written this, it's taken off. He's become an after dinner speaker and speaking in schools.

People now a days are starved for any kid of leadership. And it's these simple truths that have put him and the "Code of the West" on the map.

Here we go...

"LIVE EACH DAY WITH COURAGE...TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR WORK...ALWAYS FINISH WHAT YOU START...DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE...BE TOUGH BUT BE FAIR...WHEN YOU MAKE A PROMISE, KEEP IT...RIDE FOR THE BRAND...TALK LESS SAY MORE...REMEMBER SOME THINGS ARE NOT FOR SALE...AND KNOW WHEN TO DRAW THE LINE."

Isn't it a shame? These are all common sense. But, we've gotten away from common sense.

Hat's off to James P. Owen, who put this together.

His Code of the West may be copyrighted, but it's intentions are not.

I bet it will work for all of us.

That's my point of view, what's yours?
