"The crud" going around East Texas
It may have caught you, your family, or your co-workers.
Doctors say there's something going around right now when it comes to viruses, so be extra cautious.
It can only be described by those who have gotten it as "the crud."
"We're seeing a lot of diarrhea and nausea, vomiting, just the whole thing," said nurse practitioner Lisa Blackwelder.
Thomas White says it's affected him, and his whole circle of friends.
"Me, my wife caught it, then my fellow friends (in Corsicana) ... they've all caught it ... in the last two days," White said.
Blackwelder says if you catch it go easy on your stomach, and test what she calls ... the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, apples and toast, to sample the stomach and see how it's doing.
Avoid milk ,cheese and other dairy products and anything too sugary, and after that the best thing you can do is let "the crud" run its course.
"Typically, we don't recommend over-the-counter medications," Blackwelder said. "What they do is stop the virus from moving so it can't travel through the system and get over it. So just water, Gatorade 2 (lower calorie), Pedialyte and Tylenol or Motrin if you have a fever.
Blackwelder recommends being extra diligent about washing your hands right now and not sharing drinks with other people.
If you catch the bug and your symptoms persist for more than seven days, make sure to see your doctor.
