The Food Network will not renew celebrity chef Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of the month, a Food Network spokeswoman, who declined to be identified, told CNN on Friday.

Deen issued an apology video via YouTube on Friday for using a racial slur.

She called the use of racial slurs "hurtful."

The revelation earlier this week came from a deposition related to a lawsuit involving her brother.

In it, Deen was asked if she had ever used the "n-word".

Her response started with, "of course".

Deen's brother is being sued by a former restaurant manager for racial and sexual harrassment.

The video has since been removed from YouTube.

Most of us who grew up in the South, during the time that Paula Deen was growing up, used that word almost without thinking. It wasn't used in a malicious way, it was just part of the Southern vocabulary. Once we reached adulthood, and learned the pain that the word caused our darker skinned brothers and sisters, we stopped using it, and we rebuffed those among us who would continue it's use. Paula Deen was not a "public figure" when she used that word. She learned better. Give her a break.

Seriously, Josephine? You have no earthly idea how Deen's usage of the "N" word affected her former employee...you don't see anything wrong with using this derogatory word with a horrendous history? You're not Black (right?), you don't have the struggle some Black people have today to find dignity while experiencing the thinly-veiled racism that still exists...also, darling deen kept her type 2 diabetes a secret for 3 years while showing you how to get sick with tons of butter!

Heaven only knows how the executives of the food network are just going to swoon when they find out they've alienate their number one fan...oh, and by the way...if you are legitimate (and I strongly believe there is a very strong possibility that the post below is tongue-in-cheek...because no one can possibly be that ignorant!),for heaven's sake, go back to school, bobbie jo, and learn proper sentence structure...and how on earth did you get the third word of your post by the "moderators"?

I agree with bobbie jo, Paula has a friend/employee at her restaurant in Savannah that is a black lady so I don't think Paula meant to hurt her friend by saying this to or about another person of color. We're with you Paula, love you.

This is bullshit...I will not watch the food network no more9

I would hate to think that everyone that have used the N word lost their job; no-one would have a job.I have used the word but not in years. I love Ms Paula Deen. Pls don't make a big issue of this. By the way, I'm black and I don't believe she's racist.
