TYLER - When the Smith County courthouse opened its doors in 1954 it was designed for two courtrooms.
Today it has seven different courts and many who work in the building want changes.
this week, the smith county commissioners court held a joint-public meeting with Smith County judges and several members of the smith county bar association.
The topic? the current condition of the smith county courthouse and its future.
Un-safe, cramped and inadequate these are some of the words judges and lawyers are using to describe the current state of the smith county courthouse.
It was the first time current commissioners, judges and members of the bar association have come together to talk about the needs of the courthouse.
