December 30, 2008 - 9:38am

TYLER/LONGVIEW— Less drunk drivers may be behind the wheel this holiday season.

Local law enforcement officials are reporting the number of DWI arrests are down when compared to last year's numbers.

From December 1st - December 29th, Tyler police arrested 23 people on DWI charges. Last year, Tyler police made 44 arrests during the same time period.

In Longview, police arrested 26 people on DWI charges compared to 47 arrests last year.

Officials advise drivers to get a designated driver, call a taxi, or use Longview's "Safe Ride Home" program. Safe Ride Home offers a free ride home as long as it is within the city limits. The rides start at 8pm New Years Eve and run until 3am.
