Three arrested in drug bust

July 17, 2009 - 9:31pm

TYLER
Tyler police arrested three people Thursday night for dealing crack cocaine out of a house next to a day care, and an elementary school. Many in the community are glad to see that type of activity shut down

"I'm mighty glad that their gone mighty happy," said Leo Haskett.

Mr. Haskett has lived in this neighborhood for more than sixty years; he built his house for his wife with his own hands, after returning from World War II. He's aware of the drugs that have moved into the community, and glad to hear arrests were made.

Mr. Haskett said, "I'd like to see it cleaned up I certainly would that's mighty great I don't go for the drugs"

Just down the street from mr. Haskett, is where Tyler Police arrested Reginald Whitaker, Donna Kaye Ward, and Ronnie Cole Carpenter.

"Due to the fact that it's a drug free zone that actually upgrades it to the next higher offense, so now were talking a third degree felony so there is a pretty big difference," said Officer Don Martin.

Authorities say several neighbors complained of drug activity at the house, and narcotics investigators made several undercover buys before the arrests.

Mr. Haskett say's he loves his neighborhood and he's glad to see things are a little safer, "well seems like things getting some better... but it's still pretty bad I tell you for sure"

Police say the amount of community involvement in this bust has them hoping it will lead to more arrests.
