Some families are celebrating Christmas a little differently and not giving as many gifts as they used too. They are giving their kids three gifts each, but what is the significance behind this?

Parents are asking kids to ask for something they want, something they need, and something to read or wear. The three gifts symbolize the three gifts the wisemen brought to Jesus.

Americans spend almost $800 on Christmas alone. This can be a strain on your wallet and the true meaning of Christmas. But, families are now using this three gift rule to remind their kids about the meaning of Christmas day, Jesus' birthday.

The three gifts, symbolizing the three gifts the Wiseman brought to Jesus, gold frankincense and myrrh. Gold resembles something the kid wants, something desirable to them like maybe a favorite toy, frankincense symbolizes something spiritual or worship like a bible and myrrh, a present for the body, like clothes or shoes.

"A lot of times kids get way to many gifts and most of the time five days later they end up not doing anything with them," said mom of two Melissa Morgan.

If it's religious or money, this can definitely ease some of the holiday stress.
