Three men were injured in an explosion at an East Texas oil field site over the weekend.

It happened on Saturday, August 10th, just before 1:00 p.m. on the 1000 block of Cox Dairy Road in Gregg County.

Firefighters and Gregg County Sheriff deputies arrived on scene to find that Kenneth Shanan, 54, of Center, Brent Ellison, 26, of Hawkins, and Antonio Exner, 25, of Hawkins had all been injured.

The men are all contract employees of Exxon Mobil.

Authorities believe the explosion was caused by a welding on a pipe thought to be clear of hydrocarbons.

Shahan suffered 2nd degree burns and a blast injury. Ellison had 3rd degree burns and a blast injury. They were both taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Exner was treated for minor burns at a Longview hospital, and was later released.

The explosion is under investigation by Gregg County Fire Marshal Preston Hogue and Investigators from OSHA.
