Tips to keep your resolution of hitting the gym

Hitting the gym is at the top of millions of New Year's resolution lists every year. But, it seems keeping that resolution is quite the challenge.

KETK spoke to a local personal trainer for some insider tips.

Stephanie Row with Woodcreek Atheltic Club says building relationships at the gym is key in keeping your resoltuion because you'll want to keep coming back to see your new gym friends.

Row says a class is the perfect way to build relationships and torch calories. 

" [Classes] burn a lot of calories, and some people prefer the whole group, group camradarie to encourage their work out and stay on track with it," says Row.

She also offers this tip about making the gym part of your daily routine.

 "They say after 21 days it becomes a habit and you begin to see the body changing, you feel good and you just want to continue exercising," explains Roe. " So, my recommendation is stick with it for 21 days and you'll be on track for a lifetime of fitness."  

Other tips include:

  • Switch between classes and machines so you don't get bored.
  • Find a weight loss or work out buddy.
  • Don't push too hard. You need at least one rest day.
  • The only competition should be with yourself.
  • Write your goals and achievements down.
