The Titus County Sheriff's Office is warning about a phone scam reported by residents in the area.

TCSO stated victims will receive a call from a person posing as a Bowie Cass employee.  It appears the caller is specifically targeting the Hispanic population, but everyone should be aware and be vigilant.

The caller may ask for money to keep electricity on or require payment for a new electric meter. In either case, the caller will ask the victim to purchase a Green Dot Money Pak card for a specified amount.

A Green Dot Money Pak card can be purchased at any retailer and is a prepaid re-loadable debit card. The caller will ask for the 14 digit account number, which has to be scratched off to reveal. Once this number is forwarded to the caller, the scam is complete and is not traceable.

If you have been a victim of this scam or have information, please contact the Sheriff's Office at 903-572-6641 and speak with Sergeant Scott Wildey.
