She turned the Apache Ladies around.

She took a team with a losing record last year to the national tournament this year.

Trenia Tillis-Jones was back in Tyler Thursday after winning the Pat Summitt Coach of the Year Award in Nashville.

She told KETK Sports that this is an exclamation point in her career.

"I'm from Grapeland," Tillis-Jones said.  "No one would have believed I would be the Pat Summitt Award winner."

"This shows all the little girls in Grapeland and Tyler and everywhere that, if you have a dream, you put forth the work and the effort, you'll be able to get and achieve those goals," Tillis-Jones added.

The award is named for the Tennessee coach who won eight national championships.

Tillis-Jones led the Apache Ladies to a 30-win season.
