According to authorities at around three Wednesday afternoon the Cherokee County Sheriff's department received a 911 call for medical assistance at the Shadybrook East subdivision on Lake Palestine.

Authorities say, the caller, two year old Trenton Mathis' great grandmother reported her grandson had accidentally shot himself with a 9 mm pistol.

The child was flown to a Tyler hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials say Mathis was living with his great grandparents after already being taken away from his twenty-one year old mother.

Shari Pulliam with Child Protective Services says, "The case originated in Harris County outside of Houston. We had removed the three children back in December in Harris County from the parents. The allegations were physical neglect and physical abuse. The three children were originally placed with the great grandparents there in Bullard, TX where the incident happened."

Cherokee County DAs office needs to charge both great grand parents with child endangerment. If anyone in the household has a felony record, ATF needs to charge them with felon in possession of a firearm. These people were making money from the state to care for these children, yet placed them in danger by leaving loaded firearms around toddlers.

I wonder how much money the great grandparents were receiving each month to care for these children. One of the kids had serious medical issues, so they would receive extra money for his care.

Another wonderful placement by CPS! I believe that CPS and the individuals who are employed there should be charged with complicity in this childs death, and child endangerment. My considered opinion, having observed CPS at work for 2 decades, is that the organization is dangerous to the welfare of children and their families. Assisted is their nefarious activities by the infamous Judge Carole Clark. (AKA the Nazi Judge) This woman would be better employed as a sewage inspector. SHAME ON HER

Hard to swallow. The ONLY good thing I can see out of this is that the child is with God now and in Heaven. God knows best. Some answers will only come one day in Heaven. Being a parent is a FULL time job. Not just when it's "convenient". I've heard it said "The weekend is 'my' time" from some of my family. NO! It's NOT! You chose to have the children. You gave up "your" time. Be 100 percent full time parents. I pray for peace with this family. I hope others will learn something from it.
