East Texas — The American Red Cross on Tuesday launched an application for smartphones and tablets which gives users instant access to real-time information on tornadic activity.

The app’s release was timed to coincide with National Severe Weather Preparedness Week, said Tammy Prater, executive director for the East Texas Piney Woods chapter of the American Red Cross.
