TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Expect delays on portion of South Loop 323
(KETK) - Tyler, Tx — The Texas Department of Transportation will be working on several projects during the next few weeks, but one in particular will have many East Texans taking a detour.
Starting Wednesday, drivers should expect to see delays on South Loop 323 between Broadway Avenue and Paluxy Drive. TxDOT will begin work on the East lanes in front of Robert E. Lee High School.
"We're going to mill up some locations where the pavement and the base needs repairs," said TxDOT spokesman Larry Krantz. "And we'll replace it with fresh hot mix, but in order to do that we'll take the loop down to one lane."
Larry Krantz with TxDOT says turning the loop into one lane is always inconvenient, but it needs to be done. And the project is expected to take three days.
"The thing with roads is, if we could tow them back to the shop when they broke and get them out of traffic, we would," Krantz said. "But it doesn't work that way. You have to fix the road where it needs the work and in order to do that we have to put some lane closures out and protect the guys that are doing the work."
TxDOT and the Tyler Police Department advise drivers to take alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.
"When we ask you to seek an alternate route it's not just for our safety that's number one," Krantz said. "But number two for your convenience and also the efficiency of the overall job."
