Kilgore ISD officials are encouraging parental patience and emphasizing student safety as the district prepares to implement and adjust traffic management plans at two new schools.

“We’re asking parents or anyone dropping off a child to come early, and please be patient,” said Assistant Superintendent Dennis Williams, adding that school doors will open at 7:15 a.m.

On Aug. 26, about one-fourth of the districts’ 4,000 or so students will be arriving by car or bus at Kilgore Primary and Kilgore Middle schools, located side-by-side just off U.S. 259, and Williams said district officials have put, “a tremendous amount of thought into this plan.”

Williams said district officials and volunteers plan to meet at the end of each day for the first week or so to discuss what went right and what can be improved to make traffic flow easier.

“We’ve got a plan, but once we see it in action we may have some adjustments. But we have a base, and a starting point,” Williams said.

The drop-off point for car riders at each school is inside the circle drive, with motorists approaching from Chandler Street, passing in front of the middle or primary school and exiting onto U.S. 259.
