Tree worms infesting parts of Cherokee County

They are a pest that often goes unnoticed, until it is too late.

They are bag worms, and there are yards in Cherokee County suffering from their presence.

These creatures lay their eggs inside egg sacks which hang from trees, then once the babies are hatched, they begin eating the leaves, and sucking the nutrients from the plant.

One homeowner told us they say their evergreen turn completely brown in less than two weeks.

It is a problem that is not going away, but it can be managed, if you catch it early.

The best time to start searching for bag worms is around May, but if you don't see them until now, you will be playing catch up all summer long.
