Trick or treating tips to keep your kids safe

Tyler, Texas — Tips "Safe Kids Worldwide" recommends:
- Trick-or-Treaters should always walk on sidewalks or paths and cross at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.
- Parents should decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and choose light colored costumes that fit properly. Avoid carrying sticks, swords, or other sharp objects.
- Drivers should slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has a series of safety guidelines for children trick-or-treating on Halloween. The center recommends going out in groups, never approaching a vehicle, wearing reflective clothing and staying in well-lit areas.
