Troup group wants to go wet

TROUP - The city of Winona went wet with alcohol sales earlier this month.
Now Troup could be the next East Texas city to go wet.
A group called Troup Citizens for Progress is collecting signatures for the sale of beer and wine in stores and restaurants.
If they get the signatures they need, an election could be called as early as February.
We wanted to know how you felt about the group's efforts, so we asked people in Troup to get on their soap boxes.

It is about time! I believe that dry Counties are completely unconstitutional. Dry Counties prevent citizens from purchasing legal products in their local communities, mostly brought about by religious bigotry. But, Jesus provided wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee.
Also, going wet would be environmentally friendly, by saving gas and avoiding emmissions for these trips to the wet counties. The tax dollars generated locally would be useful to our local coffers instead of going elsewhere.

One of the things I liked about Crockett when I moved here was that it was dry and drinking and getting drunk was not the be all and end all of every day. I suspect the sponsors of the petition to go wet were not locals, but I have no proof. We did vote to go wet, and much to my surprise, things did not change much. I expected to see beer bottle, cans and other related trash around town, an increase in alcohol related problems. But there has not seemed to be any of that. Each local will be different. Keepin mind though, tax money is not the motivator, it's easier access to alcohol.
John - typical of objectors everywhere, you seem to think you know the minds and motives of other men. Why should judgemental bigots like you decide the activities of other citizens. Sounds like socialism or communism to me. How righteous you must feel as you cast your judgement down on other people. I suspect that you are a mean and vindictive person who lives a miserable life because you cannot dictate the behavior of others.
