The Assistant Principal of Troup High School has been placed on leave, and allegations are being investigated.
A call from a concerned parent this morning started us making some calls about reports that the Assistant Principal at Troup High School had possibly been dismissed after charges were made by the parents of a student.
Mike Staples has been at Troup High School only since the beginning of this school year. He came to Troup from West Rusk High School where he was the Assistant there as well.
A parent called us about allegations made against Staples, and we confirmed through a second source that indeed he was not at the school today.
Superintendent Marvin Beaty told us that there were allegations, and they are being investigated. He added though that Staples was under contract, and had not resigned. Under the terms of his contract, he can only be dismissed by the board, and that action has not taken place…
“Mr. Staples is on paid leave, and we are conducting an investigation,” said Beaty, “but there is no change in contract status at this juncture. We should conclude the investigation today, and then to make a determination as to exactly what happened and then meet with Mr. Staples. I’m in hopes of being done with this before thanksgiving. We just need to figure out what happened exactly first.”
Staples was the interim Principal at West Rusk High School while a search was completed and a new principal hired last Spring.
He left there and went to Troup this year.

this is totaly wrong mike staples shouldnt be free that is child milestation and he is doing that to diffrent kids he better not be doing it to like guys cause there would be alot of problems
There is a thing called getting what you deserve. After everything that Mike Staples and his cohort did at West Rusk, I for one am glad that he is being found out for what he is.
I believe he is incapable of behaving in a way that society deems responsible and appropriate. I hope he is not allowed to work in the presence of children again. He is a broken human being.
What is truly sad about someone like this guy is that he probably STILL thinks he did nothing wrong.
i want to know what happens ! cause my son son Pancho villa attends to troup.
hahaha
I have to respectfully disagree with you having never heard a harsh word spoken about Mike Staples. I can guess that you haven't really talked to staff or students AT THE HIGH SCHOOL and JUNIOR HIGH or you would have heard plenty harsh words for him. I would dare say the words that would describe Mike Staples best are snake and weasel. He is the type that would shake your hand and tell you how good a job your doing, and stab you in the back at the same time. That is just the minor stuff.
Mr. Staples was nothing but a BLESSING to the students at West Rusk! I never heard a harsh word spoken about him from students, staff or parents. He always went above and beyond to make sure our students did their best in all aspects of their education! Ask ANY student at West Rusk what they think of him and you will hear nothing but praise! I believe this may be a huge misunderstanding and pray that it is resolved without injuring either the student or Mr. Staples! Praying for all!
As a parent of a recently graduated student this is not a surprise to me. To those who actually had to interact with Mr. Staples on a day to day basis he was known as a very unprofessional and untrustworthy co-worker. The term used to describe his actions by co-workers was self-serving and a weasel. I am happy that he isn't a part of WRISD anymore. My prayers go out to the student and their family, and i hope that this man is not in another position where he can hurt a student.
