Smith County — Two teens are hospitalized after an ATV crash over the weekend.

On Sunday, February 17, 2013 at around 4:55 p.m., Smith County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to East Texas Medical Center Emergency Room regarding an ATV accident which occurred earlier on private property at 11749 Highway 64 East near Chapel Hill.

The accident involved two teen girls, one of which sustained severe head trauma and is in critical condition.

That individual is undergoing surgery at ETMC at this time.

The two girls were attending a birthday party and were riding an ATV.

Witnesses stated they were traveling at an unsafe speed when they lost control of the ATV, ejecting both individuals.

The occupant of the ATV with the more severe injuries was pinned underneath the ATV.

The second occupant sustained moderate scrapes and bruises.
