TX AG: Days after USDJ arrests TX woman for voting 5 times in 1 election, Obama administration is suing the state

On Thursday, the United States Department of Justice announced that it will file a new lawsuit against the State of Texas, the Texas Secretary of State, and the Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety over the voter photo identification law (SB 14).

The D.O.J. says the new law violates the Voting Rights Act, as well as the voting guarantees of the 14th and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution.

Texas Attorney General, Greg Abbott, is striking back at the federal government in his own words.  Abbott also responds to United States Attorney General Eric Holder's claims the new voter ID law is racist and is attempting to prevent minorities from voting.

Read the full statement from Greg Abbott below:

"Just days after the U.S. Department of Justice arrested a Texas woman for illegally voting five times in the same election, the Obama administration is suing to stop Texas’ commonsense voter ID law. The U.S. Supreme Court has already ruled that voter ID laws do not suppress legal votes, but do help prevent illegal votes. Voter IDs have nothing to do with race and they are free to anyone who needs one. Eric Holder's outrageous claim that voter ID is a racist plot to disenfranchise minority voters is gutter politics and is offensive to the overwhelming majority of Texans of all races who support this ballot integrity measure.

“By intervening in the redistricting case, the Obama DOJ is predictably joining with Democrat state legislators and Members of Congress and the Texas Democratic Party, who are already suing the State. Also, by challenging the 2011 redistricting plans, Eric Holder is trying to resurrect a law that was never implemented and no longer exists -- and then sue it. The 2011 redistricting plans have been replaced with plans that largely mimic plans drawn by three federal judges.

“Just two months ago the U.S. Supreme Court struck down federal preapproval of state election laws. The Court emphasized that the Tenth Amendment empowers states -- not the federal government -- to regulate elections. The Obama administration continues to ignore the Tenth Amendment and repeated Supreme Court decisions upholding states' authority to enforce voter identification and redistricting laws.

“The Obama administration needs to move beyond the cynical politics of race and focus on the real issues affecting the daily lives of all Americans, regardless of their race.”

Suzukirider1960 There is not one LAW on the books in any state that requires any citizen to have an ID when they go out in public and it does not matter if you are walking, riding a bicycle or a passenger in a vehicle.

Try it and see for yourself smartypants. They can legally hold you for up to 72 hours for not having ID.

here is the lawsmartypants being you are too stupid to look it up LIKE ALL REPUBLICANS / T-IDIOTS ARE. Sec. 38.02. FAILURE TO IDENTIFY.

Not without probable cause smartypants. I have been in law enforcement for more than 30 years and Texas law only requires you to give your name and DOB if you do not have an ID. You T-Idiots need to educate yourselves before you open your mouth and spew stupidity.

Well Def and k, if you were smart enough to do just a little research you would know that the woman that voted 5 time could not have been voting for Obama because it was during the primary runoff election and Obama was not on any runoff ballot. Second FACT is, the woman was voting by using absentee ballots in all 5 cases and the voter ID LAW DOES NOT REQUIRE A PERSON TO PROVIDE AN ID TO RECEIVE AN ABSENTEE BALLOT. Y'all are just too STUPID.

Requiring the poor who can not afford the trip to the nearest dps office 320 miles from their home to get the texas id ( Castolon to Ft. Stockton) is the same as charging a poll tax. The texas government can not place a burdensome cost on any citizen as as a condition to vote. This would be the same as a "POLL TAX" and Supreme court has already ruled on that.

Poll taxes appeared in southern states after Reconstruction as a measure to prevent African Americans from voting. At the time of the 24th amendment's passage, five states still retained a poll tax: Virginia, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi. The amendment made the poll tax unconstitutional in regards to federal elections. In Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections (1966) that poll taxes for state elections were unconstitutional.

Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections, 383 U.S. 663 (1966), the U.S. Supreme Court.
In a 6 to 3 vote, the Court ruled in favor of Ms. Harper. The Court noted that “a state violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution whenever it makes the affluence of the voter or payment of any fee an electoral standard. Voter qualifications have no relation to wealth.”

Nikki Haley Takes Heat After Report Blows Up 'Bogus' Voter Fraud Claims In South Carolina

For years, South Carolina Republicans have complained about the names of dead voters being used to cast ballots in a broad voter fraud scheme. Now that a recent report by the State Law Enforcement Division has blown up those claims, unable to find a single example of a "zombie voter" committing fraud.

Yep, and it is still illegal in all 50 states to go out in public without ID, it does not matter if you are walking, riding a bicycle or driving a car you still have to have ID on your person or go to jail, so what makes it so hard on anyone to show ID to vote? Nothing that's what, its just a way to keep dead people and illegals voting for crooked politicians like the ones mentioned by Katie above. They should all be tried for their crimes.

Can you give us the Texas statute that makes it illegal to go out in public without ID ? This should be easy because I am not asking for the 50 statutes only 1.

Thing about voter ID law is it keeps ONLY THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO VOTE from voting.

Fraud cheapens the voting system and if not stopped all faith in the system is destroyed.

Now here is someone voting FIVE TIMES (and I bet for Obama) and see, now Obama and Co. wants that to keep going. How else can Democrats win elections? Oh, yea, use the IRS to stop Tea Party activist from registering voters! And yes, that is exactly what they did!

And it is no 'poll tax' as the ID is FREE.

I would like to see the Texas Rangers arrest Eric Holder, Barack Hussein Obama, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid et al. Charges: Dereliction of duty and failure to protect the U.S.A. The murder of four men at Benghazi, Gun Running, Aiding and Abetting the enemy.
