TXDOT to repair downtown Tyler sinkhole

The Texas Department of Transportation’s Tyler District announced its plans on Monday to repair the collapsed drainage pipe that caused a sink hole last week at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Front Street.

Crews will be closing the intersection no later than 8 p.m., Friday, August 9th to begin work, and the intersection will remain closed until 5 a.m., Monday, August 12th, while crews remove the old pipe and replace it with a new one.

“Hopefully, most people won’t be affected by this project,” said TxDOT spokesman Larry Krantz. “But this is the quickest and most efficient way to get this done.”
The old pipe, made of clay and most likely installed during or immediately after World War II, runs diagonally across the intersection from southwest to northeast.
“We’d almost be shutting the intersection down anyway if we tried to keep it open while we worked on it,” Krantz said. “This way, we’re in and we’re out in less than three days.”

Signs notifying the public of the work are scheduled to be in place beginning Monday, August 5th.

In my opinion, Larry Krantz is a corrupt person. He should be fired from his job.
