Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill has been named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the first week of the 2014 college football season.

The Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week had an outstanding debut at quarterback in #21 Texas A&M’s season-opening 52-28 victory over #9 South Carolina. In his first career start Hill broke Johnny Manziel’s single-game passing record with 511 yards. Hill completed 44 of 60 passes with 3 touchdowns in the victory, ending South Carolina’s 18-game home win streak.

Hill is a graduate of Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas and is a sophomore at Texas A&M.

  • BRADLEY MARQUEZ, WR, TEXAS TECH - Senior Odessa, TX (Odessa HS) 11 catches - 184 yards, 2 TD - W, 42-35 vs. Central Arkansas

THE EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE AWARD

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
