Tyler church celebrates 80 year anniversary

The church bells at central baptist in Tyler have been ringing for 80 years, today.

As long standing church members from all over the country celebrated the anniversary of the church this morning at service.

Packed pews, and powerful praise is nothing new at Central Baptist Church in Tyler.

But Sunday, this church, and everyone inside it; celebrated the church's 80th birthday.

Senior Pastor, Kim Beckham, says, "I think what really sets the church aside is the vision of it's people."

That vision has influenced many all across the country, and they came back to pay a visit.

Beckham says, "We have people here from Kansas, people here from Cincinnati Ohio, we have people here from Oklahoma" The church started in 1933 on Erwin street, the original name: The Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Pastor Beckham says, "It took several years to kind of get going we had several part time pastors, and small locations but about the 1940's it really took off in growth, " and has been growing ever since.

Bill Aven is now the senior adult minister, it was the first church he ever went to.

Aven's mother is mother was one of the two founders.

Aven says, "I was just a tiny baby, when my mother and them organized the church, she played the piano for them, so she would lay me on a pad by the piano while she played." He's says he's seen the church grow, and he's grown with it.

Tyler Mayor, Barbara Bass stopped by for the celebration as a friend of faith, to congratulate the church's long-standing impact in the City of Tyler.

Pastor Beckham says, with biblical principals, more praise and philanthropy, Central Baptist Church will continue to grow, he has no doubt about that.

Beckham says, "We're as excited about our future as we are our past."
