Sunday afternoon East Texans gathered at The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Tyler for a lecture from international Christian Science healing speaker and teacher, Mark Swinney.

Many followers of the Christian Science faith believe that a person can be healed from illness, all by the power of prayer.

Claudia Steed from First Church of Christ, Scientist says, "In our life while we are praying and communicating about our world and our city, along with our own prayers for our family. They are listened to by God and we see that healing effect in our life."

Swinney told the crowd that he first discovered this divine healing power when he got into some poisonous oak as a child. Swinney says after prayer, the rash went away the next day.

When I go to church I see a statue of some religious person reminding me that there are those who lived saintly lives, that I am to be reverent, humbled. These people have a US flag. They should just as well paint a star of David on the pulpit.
