The Custom Truckers Club in Tyler started sharing their love of classic Chevy Trucks way back in 1972.

So, this year at their annual car show on Saturday, they can say they've been doing it for 40 years.

Famous Broadway star and Tylerite Virlinda Stanton remembers the group from her childhood...

"I've talked with Mayor Barbara Bass.  And Mayor Barbara Bass has proclaimed today...Custom Truckers Day.  June 23rd," Stanton said.

Yes, the guys love their classic trucks...but they've also done a lot for Tyler.

"The truckers focus on aiding day care centers, helping the less fortunate and many others.  They give the community scholarships, they've donated computers to TISD middle schools.  They act as role models in our community," Stanton said.

The car show...out at the Chicken Ranch on County Road 46 in Tyler on Saturday featured many more classic automobiles than just the Chevy's.

The group also raffled off a classic engine and an Earl Campbell jersey.

As usual -- all for the community.

Lawrence Harper tells KETK, he's one of the younger members of the group...they mean a lot to him.

"Classy group of guys...they do a lot of hard work.  And it's a good group of guys to hang around.  I guess that's why I started hanging around them, being a younger guy," Harper said.
