Tyler, TX (KETK) — The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, so what would be nicer than enjoying a day outdoors? The city of Tyler wants you to do just that. They're working to enhance this community experience, by adding even more walking and bike trails to Faulkner Park.
KETK spoke with the Director for Tyler Parks and Recreation, Stephanie Rollings, who said, "The first trail that we have planned is of course an extension of our existing concrete trail that goes from Grande which will go all the w ay to Faulkner Park along the Creek. Then we have an additional trail planned that is extending our mountain bike trail". These projects will add more than 8 miles of fun to existing trails. Joe Self, from Tyler Elite Bicycles, said, "I think they main reason we do it is it make us feel like kids again".
Many believe this will benefit all of East Texas. Self said, "I think Tyler's getting much more progressive in the cycling community, and I think that will actually help out both the drivers and the cyclists". The trails are suitable for nature-based fitness, or even leisurely walking with friends and family.
The project will break ground in the fall, and Rollings said, "Not only do we encourage people to get out and walk and run, the opportunity when you have trails like concrete trails, it allows families to get out together" .
