Tyler I.S.D. Officials Answer Security Questions
September 25, 2009 - 9:37pm
TYLER - After this week's deadly event at John Tyler High School, the question of school security is still on the minds of many students and parents.
After getting some of these questions from parents and community members in our newsroom, we asked Tyler I.S.D. officials.
One question was concerning security cameras.
There are seventy on the John Tyler campus.
We're told they're all working.
Another concern is the security at John Tyler and Robert E. Lee different?
The answer from the Superintendent at Thursday's news conference was, "It's not. They have the same exact security staffing."
Right now, there are additional patrols at the schools. Angela Jenkins from Tyler I.S.D. says those will be around for awhile.

okay here's the thing about metal detectors, we have between 13-18 doors to enter into the main building, that's not including the annex building, our two field houses, the portables band hall/choir room, and our tennis courts. even if we lock most of the doors so people can only enter through designated doors, someone can walk from the parking lot straight to the cafeteria, or someone on the inside can open an unguarded door from the inside. it would take too much time to check 2000+ students through metal detectors, and to check those who set it off with earrings, belts, watched or house keys. metal detectors would only be a placator, it would not solve the nonexistent "security problem". if you don't walk our halls day in and day out, don't tell us what you heard that goes on in our halls.
