Tyler ISD recognizes valedictorians
tyler — Tyler – Tyler ISD is proud to recognize its valedictorians from the 2012 graduating class: Andrea Huerta, from John Tyler High School, and Cole Paxson, from Robert E. Lee High School.
In addition to being the John Tyler High School valedictorian, Andrea was selected as one of 300 students from across the nation to be named a 2012 Dell Scholar and the recipient of a $20,000 scholarship. Andrea is a National Hispanic Merit Scholar, part of the Tyler ISD Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, and a member of the Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors.
This fall, Andrea will attend the University of Texas at Austin where she plans to double major in political science and communications. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to attend law school. Robert E. Lee High School valedictorian Cole Paxson was recently recognized as a Forty Acres Scholarship recipient by the University of Texas in Austin. He was one of 15 students selected from a pool of more than 950 applicants to receive the scholarship. In addition to being a student athlete, Cole is also a cellist, a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors, an active member of his church, and a volunteer with several area nonprofit organizations. Cole will also attend the University of Texas at Austin where he plans to pursue a degree in engineering and an advanced degree in business. His dream is to one day start a Fortune 500 company.
Andrea and Cole were both recently recognized as Outstanding Seniors at the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Outstanding Seniors Award Banquet.
