Tyler JP Pct. 1 alcohol election moves one step closer

Tyler, TX (KETK) — An acohol vote for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 is inching nearer.
On February 14, a petition with 2,206 verified voter signatures was turned into the Smith County Elections Office, according to Elections Administrator Karen Nelson. A total of 1,835 were needed for consideration.
The petition will now go before the Commissioner's Court on March 19. If the court approves, voters will decided in November if the sale of beer and wine for off premise consumption will be allowed in JP Pct. 1.
Smith County JP Pct. 2 and the City of Tyler passed a similar measure in November 2012.
