Tyler Junior College continues to burst at the seams with more students.

The school is making room by building new dorms. They will be completed by fall 2015. It is the first step in their plan for expansion.

Carlos Cordero came to Tyler Junior College from Venezuela. TJC interested him because he thought it would be a good transition from high school.

"[It] has a lot of aspects of a university, so it's kind of like a mild state of being in a university...with some things that are coming from high school," said Cordero.

He saw that TJC had dorms just like universities.

"It's very comfortable. There's a lot of social things going on," said Cordero.

The school may be getting more social because 4,000 more students are expected within the next few years.

"We'd like to see housing at 10% of that number eventually," said TJC Director of Housing, Diana Karol.

The new dorms will bed 248 students. The most expensive dorms at TJC are $2500 per semester. The new dorms are expected to cost more.

"We try to have a selection of price points for all students, so price is not a barrier to living on campus and enrolling
in the college," said Karol.

The downside to more people on campus? Some students may need to walk a little farther for parking. That does not kill the excitement for most students.

"I would be thrilled because to just live in...a newer dorm... that's awesome," said Cordero.
