Tyler Police arrest teens for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
Tyler, Texas (KETK) — Tyler Police have arrested two people for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
It happened around 3:45 p.m. Saturday when Tyler Police were called to a possible robbery of an individual in the 2800 block of Garden Valley.
The victim said that two black males had tried to steal his truck and pulled gun when they confronted him.
Both suspects then ran towards Bolter Middle School.
Officers quickly responded and found one of the suspects behind the school.
After a brief foot chase, the first suspect was caught and taken into custody.
The second suspect was found a few minutes later hiding under one of the buildings on school property.
The first suspect was identified as Tylon Thomas, 18, and the second suspect was found to be a 13-year-old juvenile.
Investigation showed that both suspects had entered the victim's dump truck and found a set of keys in the sun visor. They started the vehicle and began to pull away when the victim ran out of his house and confronted the teens.
Both teens then left the vehicle and began to run. The victim believed that one of the men was reaching for a gun when he confronted them but it turned out to be a cell phone.
Thomas was taken to Smith County Jail and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest.
The juvenile was taken to the Smith County Juvenile Attention Center and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
