Tyler, Tx — The City of Tyler is currently considering a request to change the ordinance dealing with off-site estate and garage sale signs. Residents have the opportunity to share their opinions through Tyler Speaks on the City of Tyler web site, www.CityofTyler.org.

“We are in the preliminary stages of this process and would really appreciate input from the community,” said City Planner Heather Nick. “Feedback from our residents will help guide us as we move forward with considering a change.”

Tyler Speaks is an online forum for civic engagement that was incorporated into the City of Tyler’s web site. Users may read what others are saying about important Tyler topics, and then post their own statements. City officials will read the statements and incorporate them into their decision process. The first discussion topic, off-site estate and garage sale signs, has been posted and residents may post their opinions on the page after registering.

“Tyler Speaks is just one more way that residents can share their opinions with the City,” said External Relations Director Susan Guthrie. “Many of the questions that we post on this part of our web site will eventually help form policy decisions.”

The City of Tyler currently does not allow off-premise advertising of estate/garage sales. The City Council is considering a proposed Ordinance Amendment that would allow up to four off-premise directional signs on private property with permission from the property owners.

To protect Tyler's natural beauty, signs may not be posted on the light posts, traffic signal posts, sidewalk, fire hydrant, or any other public properties and right-of-ways.
