Under the blacklight: Area teens party for a cause

It’s 7:45 on a Saturday night. Outside the Longview Exhibit Building, about 2,000 teenagers are waiting in line in anticipation of a party inside. They’ve ridden with friends or their parents have dropped them off. Standing in the cool night air, most are wearing T-shirts and shorts.

Inside the exhibit building, a small group of college students are setting up for what is about to be the biggest party in the area.

It’s now 8 p.m. A DJ takes the stage, and music begins to blare from speakers. The lights dim and are replaced by black lights. As the doors to the exhibit building open, a flood of teenagers make their way to a table bearing neon paint tubes.
