Update: Arrest made in connection with Varsity Place Apartments shooting
Tyler, tx — Sirbrycelon Shelton, 19, of Kilgore, was arrested on Monday after his release from Good Shepard Medical Center in Longview and charged with burglary. He was wanted in connection with a recent shooting at Tyler's Varsity Place Apartments.
Update (3:23 pm): The suspect, Sirbrycelon Shelton, 19, of Kilgore, has been found at the Good Shepard Hospital in Longview, according to the Tyler Police Department.
Shelton was shot in his right hand and is being taken to a Dallas hospital for surgery.
Investigators are working to obtain an arrest warrant charing Shelton with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Update: According to Tyler Police spokesperson Don Martin, a 19 year old TJC student was in his apartment at Varsity Place Apartments, Building #8, this morning, where he had contact with another man whom the student felt was going to rob him. The man left, then came back to the student's apartment, causing him to feel threatened. At that point, the student pulled out a gun and shot the man, who ran away.
Police followed a blood trail from Building #8 to Building #21, but were not able to locate a victim. They are now contacting local hospitals searching for a shooting victim. The shooter and witnesses are being interviewed; however, they are not calling him a suspect and have not placed him under arrest.
Update: KETK crews on the scene say that police appear to be working two different scenes and are knocking on doors nearby asking residents if they saw / heard anything. Police are not commenting to the media at this time.
