11:00 am UPDATE: The suspicious "bomb-like" device found in the newspaper stand was actually the machine's coin collection equipment that had fallen off inside the newspaper stand.

The restaurant is reopening.

10:39 am UPDATE: The bomb squad has given the "ALL CLEAR!" They are still investigating the device. We will get more information to you as soon as possible.


10:30 am UPDATE: A bomb squad member has approached the news stand. He has attached a rope to the rack and is now opening it slowly.


10:06 am UPDATE: Officials are sending a robot toward the news stand now.


9:45 am UPDATE: The Barksdale Air Force bomb squad just arrived on scene.

Officials are now shutting down Loop 281 from Judson to McCann, and shutting down Tuttle Blvd. from Hawkins to the Loop.


9:10 am UPDATE: Longview Police say the device was found around 7:00 a.m. by an IHOP patron.

Luby's restaurant has also been evacuated at this time, and the area around IHOP has been blocked off.


ORIGINAL STORY: Longview Police have discovered what they are calling a "bomb-like" device inside a newspaper stand outside the IHOP restaurant on Loop 281.

The restaurant has been evacuated, and media is being kept at a safe distance.

Experts from the Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport are on their way to assist the Longview Police Department.

No word yet how the device was discovered.
