UPDATE: Cause being investigated in fatal Troup house explosion

UPDATE: Cherokee County Sheriff, James Campbell, tells KETK Jerry Vessels, 68, and his wife Madeleine, 66, died in a house explosion this morning around 11:30 a.m.

Officals confirm that there was some sort of explosion that occurred but are unsure at this time the cause of the explosion.

Sheriff Campbell confirms that the house was heated by propane, but officials are still investigating if that was the cause of the explosion.

Sheriff Campbell says Jerry Vessels' brother Glenn Vessels lives next door. He heard the explosion tjhis morning and ran over to try and put out the fire before crews arrived, but the home was already consumed by flames.

Fire crews from Arp, Troup, Bullard and North Cherokee County responded to the fire. Fire officals say the explosion was so bad that there was debris scattered at least 100 feet from the home.

Officials say the 2,000 square foot house was two stories and only about 5 years oldf.

Sheriff Campbell says a State Fire Marshal from the Dallas/Fort Worth area was called into investigate the fire.

Campbells also tells KETK Jerry and Madeleine Vessles' bodies were sent to Tyler for autopsy.

UPDATE: Fire officials tell KETK the call was received just after 11:45 Sunday afternoon.

They say the fire might have been the result of an explosion, but are unsure.

They are still on scene investigating.

UPDATE: KETK has learned, two people were found dead inside the house.

Jerry Vessels and his wife's body were found inside the home on the 1100 block of County Road 4706.

Fire officials are investigating the scene.
