Longview Police Department:

The father of a 2-year-old girl that died earlier today after being left in a hot car has been arrested.

41-year-old Gabriel Mata Bocanegra, of 2403 Pine Tree Road #112, was arrested after detectives found that he had left the child in the family's Chevrolet Suburban in the driveway of their home sometime around 8:15 a.m. this morning. The toddler was discovered until around 12:55 p.m., when a 13-year-old sibling of the toddler found her in the Suburban.

Bocanegra has been booked into the Gregg County Jail and charged with injury to a child, a 2nd degree felony.

The father of the child that died was arrested around 3:45 p.m..

Child Protective Services is assessing the scene.

The name of the father has not yet been released.

 


On June 18, 2010 at around 1:12 p.m., Longview Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the Flamingo Mobile Home Park at 2403 Pine Tree Road #112 for a check welfare call.

Emergency responders arriving on-scene found that a two-year-old child had been left in a vehicle in the driveway of her home for several hours and was unconscious. The Longview Fire Department/EMS transported the child to Good Shepherd Medical Center where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services has been contacted and the investigation into what occurred is ongoing.
