On 06/14/2011, at 5:11pm Gladewater Police received a call regarding a possible drowning victim in the swimming area of Lake Gladewater in Gladewater, Upshur County, Texas.
Several emergency units arrived and immediately began rescue efforts after gaining information from bystanders of an adult male being seen going under the water, but not resurfacing.

Mr. Dexter Williams (B/M, DOB: 02/19/1986) and Mr. Aceon Jones (the victim,) (B/M, DOB: 09/30/1985) stripped down to their shorts on the beach and raced out into the water. Continuing the race, they both swam toward the floating swim area markers. Jones made it to the marker first and, according to Mr. Williams, looked to be in distress. The victim went under water and did not return to the surface.
Rescue and recovery efforts continued with Gladewater Police, Fire departments, State Game Wardens, and Longview Fire Department Dive Team, and the victim was recovered, around 7:00pm.

Upshur County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Rhonda Welch arrived and ruled the death as a drowning accident.
The victim's body was collected by Dearion and Davis Funeral Home of Gladewater.
