Emergency crews responded to a crash Friday morning involving a semi and a TxDOT vehicle on Business 259 North in Kilgore near FM 349.

Investigators determined the TxDOT truck was heading southbound in the 3500 Block of US 259 B N following a piece of heavy equipment in the outside lane. The semi was behind the TxDOT convoy.

At around 8:15 a.m., the driver of the semi became distracted by his GPS and failed to control his speed. The 18-wheeler then hit the rear of the TxDOT truck causing heavy damage and a rollover of the truck. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, but not before blocking both lanes of traffic.

The driver of the TxDOT truck, identified as Joseph Lee, 59, of Longview, was extracted with the "jaws of life" and taken to a hospital with minor injuries. He has since been treated and released.

The semi driver walked away from the crash uninjured. He was identified as Bogdan Jutrznia, 55, of Ontario, Canada.

Authorities are currently cleaning up oil and diesel spills.
