Smith County, Texas (KETK) — Authorities have identified the man believed responsible of pulling the trigger during a shooting Monday night in Smith County.
Three people were shot by a gunman around 9:50 p.m. in the 23000 block of Dogwood Trails, near the Enchanted Lakes area of northwest Smith County.
The suspect was identified as Jerry Gene Allen, 65. The alleged gunman lives at the address of the incident, said Public Information Officer John Moore.
Reports indicate Allen and others had been drinking at a bonfire gathering in the neighborhood when he got into a dispute with several people. Allen left the location and retrieved a shotgun from his house. He then fired the gun, hitting a man and two women, causing non-life threatening injuries.
Emergency crews responded and treated the victims. Two people were taken to a Tyler area hospital.
Allen was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
Several units from the Smith County Sheriff's Office and one from Lindale PD responded to the call.
