UPDATE: Homeowner chases alleged purse snatcher; ends in wreck

smith county — The suspect in this case has been identified as Reginald D. Whitmill, 33, of Tyler.
KETK crews on scene are told that a Lindale man was having dinner at home when he noticed a man outside his house reach into his car and take a purse.
The homeowner immediately got into his car and chased thealleged purse-snatcher down several county roads.
The man tells KETK that his sister was on the phone with law enforcement directing them to the scene.
The reported thief eventually crashed into a fence on the 4300 block of CR 427 in Smith County.

Officials say the driver wrecked into a fence on the 4300 block of County Road 427.

Smith County authorities were involved in a car chase this evening, according to the Tyler Police Department.
A sheriff's official confirms they were chasing someone in the northwest Tyler area.
Tyler police were alerted to the situation, but the chase ended in a crash before their officers became involved.
It is unknown if any injuries occured.
