Update:

"Everyone is innocent until proven guilty"... that's the reason that some people claim that the term "illegal immigrant" or "illegal alien" is offensive.

They are calling for the phrase to be removed from the media's vocabulary.

Supporters of the change say that the term "illegal" spreads unnecessary fear and hate.

They say that using the term "undocumented worker" or "undocumented immigrant" would be less offensive.

Do you agree?

Who the he!! cares if the term is offensive to a bunch of parasitic invaders or not? "Illegal alien" is the proper legal term and describes these leeches to a T. They are aliens, that is citizens of another country, and they are here illegally, that is in violation of U.S. laws. They aren't "undocumented" (they usually have plenty of documents... just not their own), and they are not or should not be "workers" since it's unlawful for them to be working here in the first place.

if a black family from africa comes illegally to the u.s. they are refugees from a war torn country and are welcomed if a family of mexicans come across we are considered illegal aliens that have no right being here but do you not see that mexico is a war zone as well if the u.s. were to have the problem mexico does and you could not leave your home without being in constant fear that you could be gunned down along with your family for no reason you would leave the country too.

The SPJ has not taken any such stand. The article you're apparently referencing now has a disclaimer making clear that it is the author's opinion, and not that of the SPJ or its Diversity Committee. You can read my blog post here: http://sdrostra.com/?p=11155

I am on the SPJ board in San Diego
