UPDATE: Lufkin roads reopen after wreck involving hazardous chemical
Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — The overturned truck tractor and trailer that had been blocking the Hwy. 59 North exit ramp at North Medford Drive in Lufkin has been cleared.
HAZMAT and emergency crews finally removed the vehicle at 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, after several hours of work.
A placard on the trailer indicates that it contains Toluene diisocyanate. The chemical was transferred to another trailer and the damaged truck and trailer were towed from the scene.
Diesel fuel had leaked from the truck, but the cargo had not leaked.
Crews began transferring the hazardous chemical at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, and anticipated that the task would be complete by 10:00 p.m. However, it took more time than they originally thought.
During the transfer, traffic was diverted. All northbound traffic on was routed around Loop 287.
Authorities now tell KETK that the road is clear, and traffic can pass through as normal.
