Well-known East Texas piano tuner

JACKSONVILLE - There aren't many musicians in East Texas who haven't had their piano tuned by David Thomason.

Jacksonville musician Steve Brand has known Thomason and used his piano services for years.

"Oh yeah, he's tuned pianos all over East Texas for years - Henderson, Kilgore, Tyler, Jacksonville, Rusk, Palestine - all over.  He's got a tremendous raport with - with just so many people from all over this area... great guy," Brand said.

Thomason is now reported to be in good condition at a Tyler hopsital after being shot on his own property Saturday.

Thomason tells Cherokee County officials he was checking on his land near Jacksonville when he noticed two men trying to leave his property.  They had just burglarized his tool shed.

"His description at that time was possibly two hispanic males driving a dark maroon vehicle," said Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell.

Thomason tells Cherokee County officials he was blocking their way out of the gate when one of the men fired shots into the air and the other man walked up to his truck window and shot him twice - in the neck and shoulder.

Then the man pulled him out of the truck onto the ground, moved the truck out of their way, and took off.

"Just to walk up and shoot him...it's just so cold blooded and brutal.  And like I say, they're cowards.  And they wouldn't hesitate to do it to someone else I'm sure," Campbell said.

A passerby found Thomason on the side of the road and called 911.

He told officials it was a newer style license plate.  The second part of the set of numbers started with N4.

Sheriff Campbell says a Crimestoppers reward will be issued for any information on where to find these two men.
