TYLER - Today, East Texans finally got to get a glimpse of "Meadow Lake."
It's a retirement community project years in the making.
Its construction has provided East Texans with over 300 construction jobs over the last 2 years and 120 permanent jobs on the campus.
...and the Meadow Lake folks say they're just getting started.
The campus sits on 92 acres. East Texans 55 and older can live in a resort-style facility with either independent or assisted living.
The community is sponsored by Sears Methodist, a non-profit faith-based organization known for building senior communities.
At the facility, the Meadow Lake folks say seniors can stop worrying about things like maintenance or what to cook for dinner.
Instead, they can enjoy getting those things taken care of for them.
East Texan Barbara Sjerven is moving into one of the homes on the property.
She was the second person to sign up for the place almost 5 years ago.
"This whole concept is so different from an ordinary retirement community that I am just really looking forward to all the exciting things we can do, enrichment we can have in our lives, plus the beauty of it," Sjerven said.
